Number of laser shot treatments influences degree of myopia in ROP
The number of laser shots applied in photocoagulation treatment for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is significantly associated with the degree of myopia seen in treated children at 3 years of age, according to a study.
In 34 infants with ROP (68 eyes) treated by diode laser therapy, the number of laser shots applied was significantly higher for the eyes with high myopia in the children at 3 years old than for those without high myopia (P = 0.0088).
In addition, a significant correlation was noted between the differences in the spherical equivalent values between the 2 eyes and the differences in the number of laser shots applied between the 2 eyes (P = 0.0013).
